Door Chants and Movies on the Lawn

Sorority recruitment season has officially begun in Arkansas. Maple St. has been busy this week with women moving in for "Spirit Week", planting flowers, eating on their front porch furniture during lunch breaks, and practicing door chants...

Tonight I decided to take a walk as I was working late on some assessment (boo) and it was a beautiful night. I walked down Maple toward Dickson to see if anything good was going on. I was greeted by Kappa Delta practicing their door chant and entrance, a group of Tri-Delta's sitting on their front steps chatting, and my beloved Chi Omega's watching 10 Things I Hate About You on a larger projector screen on their front lawn in matching work week t-shirts. I can not describe how excited it all made me...

As most of you know I crazily love sorority recruitment. There is just something about it... the excitement of being back together after the summer and spending time together without the distraction of school, the anticipation of new members, the ability to pull everyone together around one thing, having the chance to get to know and appreciate members who you have not had the chance to get to know, and the promise of the future of organizations that touch so many young women and have the very best intention at their roots. While I realize that this is a very optimistic view of recruitment and that many parts of it are ridiculous...I still am in love.

I apologize now for the recruitment postings to come in the following days. It all begins on Monday!
